Rattleback
The Rattleback, or "Rattler" or "Arthropod" as they are sometimes called, are considered to be one of the most dangerous creatures you can encounter in the wasteland of Rebel Earth. They are black, six-legged extraterrestrials that are approximately the size of a terrestrial pumpkin. The Rattleback's iconic name comes from their unique ability to make the plates covering their bodies rattle.

[Biology]
The Rattleback can be identified by its dark black skin, red-and-white patterned legs and, of course, the red plates that cover their back and sides. While these plates have no known offensive purposes, they definitely seem to have some defensive purposes. First off, the plates of Rattlebacks are presumed to exist as a means of defense against their main competitor, the Xentenial (which, while extremely fast, are not very strong). On-top of that, it's presumed that their ability to rattle the plates on their back serves as a warning to bigger predators that might try to eat it (much like a terrestrial rattlesnake will rattle its tail when threatened).

Another notable feature about the Rattleback is its venom. All Rattlebacks use this extremely powerful neurotoxin to paralyze its victims and deliver it by using the fangs on their chelicerae. Once the victim has bit by one, the crab-like creature will scurry away to a safer distance and trail behind, while the toxins will start to cause hallucinations in the victim and slowly make them suffer. After that, and unless the infection has treated by an equally powerful tranquilizer within a certain time frame, the victim will go into a series of convulsions before they finally become complete paralyzed and brain dead. The Rattleback then drags the living corpse to a secluded area, rips open its abdomen with its claws, and proceeds to lay its eggs within the mangled torso and incubates them there until they hatch. However, if the Rattleback is not breeding, it simply devours the victim alive and moves on.

Necromancer
The largest of the extraterrestrials that plague the landscape of Rebel Earth, the Necromancer can best be described as a tall and well built, saurian-like creature that's covered in ice of unknown origin. However, despite its initial impression, the necromancer is surprisingly feeble and seems almost withered to the point of being corpse-like. In fact, it's not uncommon to find parts of these creatures missing or to find internal body structures exposed to the toxic air of the desert wasteland.

[Biology]
Towering at 15 feet tall (not including the icicles covering its back), the Necromancer is best identified by its ghastly, unnatural appearance and the chilling air that seems to accompany it. In fact, the ice that seems to cover its back, tail, and head always seem to be fogging, hinting at a freezing interior body temperature. This freezing interior temperature can even be felt through its skin (which many agree to resemble dirty snow) but it is advised NOT to touch the creature yourself unless you want to wind up dead.

This is where the creature's reason for possessing such a morbid name comes in: Tying into its mysterious powers of telepathy and temporary "flight" (better described as "levitation"), both of which are presumed to tie into some sort psychic ability, Necromorphs are known possess the ability to reanimate the bodies of the dead and to even control them. This ability is part of what makes them so dangerous, as this creature will not hesitate to use even its past meals to swarm and overwhelm intruders or possible threats when encountered in the colder parts of wasteland.

In fact, the Necromancer's habitat usually consists of the frozen wastelands that they have created (their chilling bodies seem to be able to freeze water particles in the air and thus produce a natural "snow") and the vast mountain ranges that naturally occur on the planet's surface. When they are not taking extended periods of rest (which may because its powers are a drain on its already feeble body), they are moving constantly in search of prey - often at night when the earth's temperature is coldest.
